Report on the travels and status of NW Australian sat-tagged Bar-tailed Godwits

In summary we have nine birds alive on the Siberian Breeding grounds. Three are still in Roebuck Bay and we have lost contact with one bird and 2 have died. 4 birds are heading to or have arrived at the New Siberian Islands (NSI) just as Pavel Tomkovich predicted . more

In summary we have eleven birds on the Siberian Breeding grounds, with 900km separating the most westerly and easterly birds. Three have stayed in Roebuck Bay and we have lost contact with one bird. more

Update on satellite-tagged Bar-tailed Godwits from NW Australia

Here is an update on the Broome Bar-tailed Godwits. We now have twelve birds in China or on their way there, one bird has decided to go south! And two are still in Roebuck Bay although C0 has been walkabout and returned so only one has yet to leave at all. more

Report on preparations for satellite tracking Bar-tailed Godwits from NW Australia

In 2007 16 Bar-tailed Godwits were fitted with satellite tracking devices in New Zealand by scientists working with the United States Geological Survey Alaskan Studies Centre, PRBO and other partners. Many of these birds completed their round trip to Siberia and back. Following on from the success of this project the Global Flyway Network has teamed up with them to do the same with godwits of the race menzbieri, which spend their non-breeding season in NW Australia. more
